Wildlife at MS Factory Dalbeattie :

Following the closure of the Ministry of Supply Factory, many parts of the site were essentially abandoned to Nature. Stelrad's bought the old 50-acre Barclosh Farm segment purely as a dump, so very little changed in the fifty three years up to 1998, when the land was disposed of to Edingham Farm. In consequence, there is now a remarkable area of natural lowland heathland, with shallow marshland and reedbed in the old Knock Burn reservoirs.

Other parts of the site have provided surprises; rock doves can be found in many buildings and a Barn Owl was seen in one building in use as a cattle barn. There are inevitably a lot of rabbits and signs of Roe Deer.

In May and June 2006, the writer found many slopes ablaze with gorse and broom flowers, whilst in the turf were many wildflowers.
