Welcome to Love Bay ...

The beautiful and sheltered cove of Love Bay is on the south side of Kalavria, the larger of the two parts of the island of Poros. The pine trees provide shade, but the sun-beds at the edge of the sea make it easy to top up your tan. All ages find enjoyment at Love Bay, but it is true that Love Bay - Limanaki Agapis, to give it the Greek name - is exceptionally popular with engaged couples and newlyweds. Two great features are that this is one of only two beaches on Poros that are kept free of litter and cigarette-butts, and that the sandy beach extends below the edge of the sea.

To get to Love Bay you can walk there in about half an hour from Kanali, by following the coast road west through Megalo Neorio. Alternatively, the bus costs 1 Euro and runs from the Kanali Bridge at about ten past the hour or quarter to the hour. Bikes, motor bikes (mikaniki) and cars can be hired locally. The writer and his wife tended to take the bus there and to walk back.

Sofianna's Snack Bar...

The good-natured and deep-hearted Sofianna has run the Love Bay concession for some years. She has gradually built it up to a well-run snack bar, offering hot and cold snacks and drinks, and is working on further improvements whilst not spoiling the tranquil atmosphere. On occasion, she has hosted civil ceremonies and wedding celebrations, for the bay is as beautiful as the name suggests.

There is no doubt that Sofianna has a someties quirky sense of humour; there is a little figure on the Snack Bar that holds the toilet building key, a long-sitting member of the staff. Hidden in the trees you will also find a painted cartoon of Love Bay and a wood and stainless steel sculpture assuring you that topless bathing is acceptable.

The Chapel...

To the west side of Love Bay a small family chapel nestles amongst the trees. Sofianna has obtained the consent of the owners to use it for wedding celebrations, so it is worth making enquiries.
