Local Attractions : The GALLOWAY RED KITE TRAIL is a major local attraction of the re-introduced Red Kites, wonderful soaring birds that can be seen from Ringford north to New Galloway. Meiklewood Farm is south of the Ringford A75 junction with the Laurieston road, from where the Kites can be seen in all their beauty, by following the track up behind the farm. The BARSTOBRICK VISITOR CENTRE and Neilson's Monument walk a mile up the road towards Laurieston, offer a further chance to walk in wonderful scenery and watch for the Red Kites. For those less willing to walk far, the THE OLD SCHOOLHOUSE between Meiklewood Farm and Ringford offers a short walk then a cup of tea and a bun. As well as these attractions, we have the natural beatiful coast lines and beaches, forest roads and trails, castles and just ''wonderful scenery !'' |
|
Meiklewood is near the A75 road from Carlisle to Stranraer, so is in an excellent position for visiting the rest of Dumfries and Galloway. For more information, please see :- Galloway Forest Park, The Machars, Kirkcudbright & Gatehouse and Dalbeattie & Castle Douglas. | |
