Ringford from above Meiklewood Farm

Meiklewood Farm :
Traditional Georgian farmhouse with spacious rooms. Meiklewood is a pedigree beef and sheep farm with Pedigree Galloway cattle. Kirkcudbright in 4 miles, Castle Douglas in 6 m iles, we are centrally situated for touring South West Scotland. We welcome visitors to take walks to the top of the farm where the Isle of Man can be seen on a clear day. There is wild life such as ducks, swans, badgers and the odd fox. The River Tarff runs through the farm where brown trout can be caught and the occasional salmon. Mountain bikes can be arranged to take advantage of the side roads within easy reach of our farm. Loch Ken and the Galloway Forest Park is within easy reach of a bike ride! Golf courses are available nearby and a Golf range is only four miles away and can be booked for any guests. Whilst we do not provide stabling for your horse, there is a stable 1 mile away. Enjoy a traditional Scottish breakfast including eggs from our hens and fresh homemade bread, marmalade and jams before setting out for your day.

Local Attractions :
Meiklewood is situated near the A75 road between Carlisle and Stranraer. We are 25 miles from Dumfries where ROBERT BURNS worked and lived - Ellisland Farm, the Burns Centre, Burns House and Howff in Dumfries, are all there to see. 6 miles east is CASTLE DOUGLAS Food Town and 4 miles from the lovely little fishing town and Artists' centre of KIRKCUDBRIGHT. Only 2 miles away in Twynholm is the DAVID COULTHARD MUSEUM (famous Formula l racing driver) and the COCOA BEAN CHOCOLATE FACTORY (signed from the A75). The GALLOWAY WILDLIFE CONSERVATION PARK is four miles away east of Kirkcudbright. Also, 6 miles away is CREAM O'GALLOWAY luxury icecream head-quarters situated at Rainton Farm, near Gatehouse-of-Fleet where there are lots of activities to "while away" the day for young and old. The Cream o' Galloway and Cocoa Bean open from Easter to end of October.

The GALLOWAY RED KITE TRAIL is a major local attraction of the re-introduced Red Kites, wonderful soaring birds that can be seen from Ringford north to New Galloway. Meiklewood Farm is south of the Ringford A75 junction with the Laurieston road, from where the Kites can be seen in all their beauty, by following the track up behind the farm. The BARSTOBRICK VISITOR CENTRE and Neilson's Monument walk a mile up the road towards Laurieston, offer a further chance to walk in wonderful scenery and watch for the Red Kites. For those less willing to walk far, the THE OLD SCHOOLHOUSE between Meiklewood Farm and Ringford offers a short walk then a cup of tea and a bun.

As well as these attractions, we have the natural beatiful coast lines and beaches, forest roads and trails, castles and just ''wonderful scenery !''

Meiklewood is near the A75 road from Carlisle to Stranraer, so is in an excellent position for visiting the rest of Dumfries and Galloway. For more information, please see :- Galloway Forest Park, The Machars, Kirkcudbright & Gatehouse and Dalbeattie & Castle Douglas.

How To Find Us :
Meiklewood Farm is just off the A75 near the junction to Ringford Village, (A762) six miles west of Castle Douglas. When coming from the east and you see the sign to the right to Ringford Village, stay on the A75 for another l00 yards and you will see our farm on the left hand side. Click on the map image for a map of the area.

Maps of Dumfries and Galloway can be found in the Where We Are page.
